FOR APPLICANTS WATCHING SEVERAL CONSULATES

One set of answers. A DS-160 for every consulate you might get a slot at.

When appointments are scarce, applicants watch several consulates and take the first slot that opens. The consulate named on your DS-160 should be the one you attend. With DS160.io you answer once and file a DS-160 for each consulate, free.

Free to complete and file, with no card needed. DS160.io does not book appointments or check availability; it makes each extra DS-160 a few minutes' work.

Why one per consulate

Your DS-160 names the consulate where you will interview

The first choice on the DS-160 is the location where you will apply, and a submitted DS-160 cannot be changed. The State Department's DS-160 FAQ says another post can retrieve your form by its barcode, so interviewing elsewhere is not impossible. But embassies warn that a DS-160 submitted for another location can delay your case.

So if you are watching several consulates, you have two choices: file one DS-160 and hope the location is accepted, or file one naming each consulate you might attend and bring the confirmation that matches your appointment. The second is the safer choice. On DS160.io it costs nothing but a few minutes per consulate.

How it works

Answer once, file for each consulate

  1. 01

    Answer the DS-160 once

In plain language, in your own language, saved as you go. Your answers live in your account, not in any one filing.

  2. 02

File it, then file it again for the next consulate

On the filing screen you choose the consulate. DS160.io enters every page on the official site and submits it; you type the site's security codes. File again and choose the next consulate: the answers stay the same, only the location changes.

  3. 03

    Book whichever slot opens first

Each filing has its own Application ID and confirmation page, saved in your account. Book on the appointment website as you do today, and take the confirmation that names the consulate you booked.

Where it applies

Countries with more than one U.S. consulate

Anyone applying in one of these countries can file a DS-160 for more than one post. China and India are where applicants most often watch several.

What to know

  • DS160.io does not book appointments

Booking, the visa fee and availability all live on the appointment website. DS160.io has no view of which consulate has slots.

  • Each filing is its own DS-160

Each one gets its own Application ID and confirmation page. Keep them apart, and bring the one that matches your appointment to the interview.

  • A submitted DS-160 cannot be edited

If an answer changes after you file, you file a new DS-160 from your saved answers in a few minutes. Your earlier confirmations stay in your account.

  • Filing is free, every time

No card, and no limit on how many consulates you file for. You pay only if you want a visa specialist's help with your application.

Questions

What applicants ask about filing for several consulates

Does my DS-160 have to name the consulate I interview at?

It is the safer choice. The State Department's DS-160 FAQ says another post can retrieve a submitted DS-160 by its barcode, but embassies warn that a form submitted for a different location can delay your case. A DS-160 naming the consulate you attend avoids the question.

What if I already submitted a DS-160 for one consulate?

You can still file another naming the consulate where you get a slot. If the first was filed with DS160.io, it takes a few minutes. If not, answer the questions once here and file for each consulate you are watching.

Do I pay anything for each DS-160?

No. A DS-160 costs nothing to submit, here or on the official site. The visa fee is a separate payment on the appointment website, and DS160.io never collects it.

Can DS160.io find me an appointment?

No. DS160.io has no view of appointment availability and does not book. What it does is make a DS-160 for each consulate a few minutes' work instead of an hour each, so you are ready whichever one opens.

Which confirmation do I take to the interview?

The confirmation page whose consulate matches your appointment. All of yours are saved in your account, each with a PDF of every page that was filed.

Is this the official DS-160?

No. DS160.io is an independent service, not affiliated with the U.S. government. It enters your answers on the official Consular Electronic Application Center and gives you the official confirmation page and Application ID.
